Winter is a common time when most of us seek out specific vitamins to prevent illness such as vitamin C and citrus fruit. We believe that such vitamins will help protect us from the winter bugs, but variety is essential. Our body’s immune system can change in response to just one single nutrient deficiency!

It is now well known that our western diets high in refined sugars, processed foods and red meats are not good for health. These foods reduce the effectiveness of our immune systems and make us more likely to catch infections and suffer more severely with symptoms.

It is more important now than ever as COVID-19 continues to affect so many of us to have a healthy varied diet. So why not start your day off well with a hearty bowl of porridge?

Oats/oatmeal are good for many reasons...once eaten they release their sugar content in to our body nice and slowly which keeps the level of sugar in our blood perfect. This provides us with energy for longer periods. Oats also reduce bad cholesterol and help to keep our blood pressure low. All these properties keep our heart healthy. The fibre and nutrients in porridge are ideal to keep our healthy gut bacteria happy and in turn they keep us well!

Why not add in some stewed apples/pears/plums or just mash in some blueberries and a banana for natural sweetness and extra vitamins.

Add in a sprinkle of ground nuts and seeds – these foods are a great source of protein and healthy fats which are essential for growth in our nippers!

Add in some dried fruits for an extra source of iron. Figs are also a super source of calcium.

Remember to offer your nippers the right food portion size for their age and the right food consistency for them to manage safely.

Enjoy and hop on to our instagram or facebook page to post us some pictures of your nippers having their healthy breakfasts 😊
