Nutrition 4 The Antenatal Period

These sessions support families with a healthy pregnancy; preparing for birth; & preparing for parenthood.  

We aim in our antenatal sessions  to  support families and professionals to optimise parent & infant nutrition & development.

Pregnancy brings many changes and decisions.


Many parents feel unsure about feeding, sleep, and caring for a newborn.

Our antenatal sessions offer a safe, supportive space either at home, in clinic, or online to:
Antenatal sessions are led by experienced professionals accordingly, including:
  • Midwives

  • Health Visitors

  • Registered Nurses

  • Paediatric Dietitians

  • Lactation Consultants

All antenatal facilitators are parents.


We combine clinical knowledge with real-life experience to provide clear, evidence-based guidance.

You will leave our session feeling informed, reassured, and prepared for feeding & parenting.

By supporting gut health early, we help families address nutrition challenges at their source. This reduces the need for short‑term or restrictive approaches.

Session One:
Preparing 4 Parenthood, Feeding and Early Parenting

This antenatal session focuses on life with your baby after birth.


It explains what early parenting is really like.

You will learn about:

  • Newborn behaviour and development

  • Bonding and responsive care

  • What babies need in the early weeks

 

We explain what is normal for babies, including:

  • Breastfeeding and bottle feeding

  • Sleep patterns

  • Crying and comfort

 

This helps set realistic expectations and reduce worry.

 

We give balanced, non-judgemental information that you can use whether you breastfeed, formula feed, or do both.

 

You will learn about:

  • How to prepare for breastfeeding, including information on colostrum harvesting

  • How breastfeeding works in the early days

  • How to recognise feeding cues

  • Signs your baby is feeding well

  • Common feeding challenges and where to get help

  • Safe and responsive bottle feeding

 

Our role is to support your choices.

 

We help you decide what works for you and your family.

 

Partners and birth supporters are welcome.

We explain how they can support feeding, bonding, and well-being.

Session Two: Nutrition 4 Mums-to-Be

Good nutrition supports your health and your baby’s development.

This antenatal session gives clear, practical advice and focuses on everyday food choices you can manage.

What makes this session different from other nutrition in pregnancy sessions is our recognition of the importance and significance of gut health.


Gut health supports digestion, immunity, and overall well-being.

Research shows that diet in pregnancy affects both parent’s and baby’s gut health.


This can influence long-term health outcomes.

Topics covered

  • Key nutrients in pregnancy, including folate and iron

  • Foods that support gut health, such as fibre-rich foods

  • How to build balanced meals using everyday ingredients

  • Diet-based ways to manage common pregnancy symptoms

  • Food safety and foods to avoid in pregnancy

  • Healthy weight gain and supportive lifestyle habits

 

This session avoids conflicting advice.

 

There is no pressure to eat perfectly.

 

We focus on balance, flexibility, and being kind to yourself.
